Beliefs and Values
At
Christ’s Church at Georgetown, we draw our strength and our values from
God, learning to look at the world, His creation, through His eyes. It’s
an ongoing process, one that helps us learn more about Him as we study the Bible,
and put what we learn into practice in our lives.
These
are the basics of our faith. We believe and teach that:
The
Bible is the inerrant word of God. It is our standard.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God….
2 Timothy 3:16
Every
person has been created in the image of God and each of us is very valuable
to Him.
We were created to fellowship
with God, but we chose to rebel. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory
of God. Romans 3:23
Jesus
Christ is the one and only Son of God.
Through
Him we can receive the free gift of salvation from sin and a new, eternal life
offered by His Heavenly Father. For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting
life. John 3:16
Baptism
by immersion is our response in faith.
We respond
to God’s offer of pardon, and it puts us into Christ’s spiritual
body, the church. Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, everyone of
you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
We
are a part of the body of Christ on earth, the church, empowered by the Holy
Spirit, commissioned to reach the lost and encourage the saved.
From
him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows
and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:1-16
Jesus
Christ will one day return and take His people home to heaven.
For the Lord
Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel,
and with the trumpet of God ... We who are alive and remain shall be caught
up … and thus we shall always be with the Lord. I Thessalonians 4:16-17
Our
beliefs lay the foundation for core values that guide the ministry lifestyle
of Christ’s Church at Georgetown.
We
are a community of people who are:

We submit to its authority as primary, and evaluate other resources according
to its standard. We seek its truth and wisdom to shape our decisions, direct
our actions, and build our faith as we live by its principles.
