Worship · Grow · Serve

We all—believers and the not-yet-convinced—are on a spiritual journey, whether or not we call it by that name. At Christ’s Church, we are structured to help believers grow in their faith. We’re also structured to help clarify some things for those in our community who are not yet convinced that there is a God, and then help them think through their relationship with Him.

Three words can be used to sum up our structure to help people take steps forward on their spiritual journey. Those words are worship, grow, and serve.

Worship
Worship is the basic connection we make to God. We hear about His deep love and sacrifice for us, and respond, celebrating both individually and corporately. Christ’s Church at Georgetown focuses on telling God’s story of love simply, clearly, and effectively in a variety of venues to reach as many people as possible, following the Apostle Paul’s example. He said, “I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can..to spread the Good News.” (1 Corinthians 9:19-23 NLT)

Grow
Growth is the natural next step following a response to God’s story of love. Paul wrote in his letter to the Philippians, “I pray that your love will overflow, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding…” He also wrote, in the same letter, “I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished… .” (Philippians 1:9-11 NIV, and Philippians 1:4, NLT) Growth transforms our lives, as we learn, and practice what we’ve learned from God’s Word.

Serve
Christ’s Church encourages those who attend here to volunteer in ministry—through the church and in our community. It is another way to grow in faith, as well as to recognize that God did not create us simply to live our lives for ourselves. Again, Paul wrote that we have been “created in Christ Jesus to do good works…” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV) while the Apostle Peter wrote, “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others…” (1Peter 4:10 NIV)
